Within a few months, she had scrapped everything for a dedicated Mac and SecuritySpy setup with the main reasons being "reliability and ease of use". One particular client was initially swayed by a flashy Windows-based turnkey package and used it for a short time before coming back to me for another SecuritySpy demonstration. Access to the live images and most all SecuritySpy control is done through an Internet browser locally or remotely, not to mention access via an unassociated iPhone and iPad application called RemotePatrol.Īs a part-time home communications and automation installer, I have also introduced a few customers to SecuritySpy. When I am not in front of a workstation, I have the controlling computer connected to a video splitter and sending the program screen of all active camera windows to HDTV's and dedicated monitors throughout the building. The time-lapse events are complied every 24 hours and automatically uploaded to a remote server for inspection. The motion-only events also trigger a text message to alert me and send a snapshot of the incident, where I can review further if needed. The cameras are set in a combination of capturing motion-only events or time-lapsed events. Each has a dedicated Mac Pro that coordinates nine Axis network cameras 24/7, most of which have PTZ functionality. Because we have a lot more cameras than the average user we run into some problems other users didn't have. ![]() ![]() This server runs constant at 100% CPU usage with a load of 2.5 but even with this high load SecuritySpy creates perfect MPEG movies with a frame rate of 3 or 4 frames per second. To run SecuritySpy we use a dedicated G5 Xserve (1 x 2.0 Ghz CPU, 1.5 GB Memory and 3x250 GB Discs). All these cameras are on a dedicated network because of the network traffic SecuritySpy produced when monitoring 35 cameras real-time (about 40Mbit/s constant). We have a set-up of 35 cameras: 10 JVC VN-C10U and 25 JVC VN-C30U. JVC Netherlands uses SecuritySpy to observe the building and surroundings when we are out of the office and to monitor the showroom (with a lot of expensive stuff) and the entrance 24 hours a day.
